I have been a journalist for more than 40 years, and I worked 27 years at The Charlotte Observer until being laid off in 2016. It was a good run there, but The Observer, like most newspapers, is having trouble navigating the digital world. I finally got caught up in the seemingly never-ending cycle of layoffs. I had many hats there during my tenure: copyediting, design, news editor, design supervisor, technology and for the last few years photographer and night photo editor. I am a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, married with one son and a granddaughter. We all live in Lincolnton.
