Emily graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Economics and worked for several years as an investment banking analyst in Wells Fargo’s Financial Sponsors Group. Emily first observed the challenges facing at-risk students as a volunteer tutor and joined Teach for America in 2010, where she taught math and wrote curriculum for a start-up, intervention-focused middle school in San Jose, California. Emily then completed a fellowship with Education Pioneers, working on the financial strategy team at Rocketship Education, a high-growth non-profit that operates public elementary charter schools in low-income areas. Returning to her hometown of Charlotte to work for Heart in July 2013, Emily believes our community collectively has the resources to ensure that all students perform on grade level and are confident, enthusiastic learners.
