Blink Stefanus exhibits the progress made toward the Blink Project

12 February 2014 - Johannesburg

Witness how Blink Stefanus plans to turn art into a true form of currency. Blink Stefanus will exhibit all of the trades made to date with their pieces of art in exchange for travel supplies needed on their adventure to South America.

They will travel to this destination with the items they have traded thus far and nothing else but their blank canvas “Blink cheque books” to use for creating art pieces in exchange for their stay. The exhibition will take place on Sunday the 16th of February 2014 from 14:00 to 22:00 at MOAD (The Museum of African Design) which is situated at 281 Commissioner Street in Johannesburg. Blink Stefanus traded a drawing to make use of the space at MOAD and will be using this opportunity to say their farewells before making the trip accross to where the adventure will begin; Sao Paulo, Brazil. Their journey starts on the 4th of March 2014, be sure to keep track of it on their blog, on Instagram and on Twitter.

You want to feel childhood? Try this - a man steps up to a microphone, and without preamble or hesitation, gets a whole room of fully-grown adults singing, swaying and huffing along with him in a matter of seconds.

Nick Boraine talks us through his experiences in Belfast, Cambodia, Afghanistan and many other places, opening our eyes to the life-altering possibilities created by embracing childlike play and curiosity in the worst circumstances.

South African photographer Jodi Bieber speaks on her work and the brave women she photographs.

In a powerful talk from our month around the theme of Bravery, Jodi gives an autobiographical talk about herself and her work, which focuses on capturing beauty in the faces of some of the world’s most abused women. Her photograph of Bibi Aisha, a woman from Afghanistan whose ears and nose were severed by her husband and brother-in-law, was selected as the World Press Photo of the Year in 2010.
