Next Charlotte speaker
September 6, 8:15am • Project 658 • part of a series on Muse
So … we’ve learned this really, really quickly. If you’re going to pull off an amazing CreativeMornings event, you need a super-talented, super-bearded, unflappable, “my Kung Fu is the best Kung Fu,” nerd in the back of the room. Ours is Steve Whitby. And, he’s badass. You’ve seen him back there. From sound to video to countdown clocks and speaker decks, he’s holding it all together. And, making us all look good. Here’s a little more about him:NAME: Steve WhitbyWHAT’S YOUR CM TITLE?
AV Club President & Coordinator of Necessary Nerdery WHERE IS “HOME”?
Charlotte’s been home for 20 years. I moved here in 1995. I grew up in a steel town in PA, but Charlotte is most definitely my home now. #KeepPounding WHAT’S YOUR DAY JOB?
I’m the Creative Director at Warehouse 242, A Church for the City. So I work with musicians, artists, writers, and creatives every day. I point people in the right direction, I do our design work, and I herd cats.WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORD IN THE WORLD?
Awesomesauce. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE WORD?
Besides moist? “But…” HOW MANY LANGUAGES DO YOU SPEAK?
Three. (English, Pig Latin, ErmanJay) Oh, and I speak Nerd fluently. So…, four. Definitely four. WHAT’S YOUR CREATIVE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION?
1. Ask more people about the stories that make them.
2. Listen more.
3. Do a little dance. Make a little love. Get down tonight. WHAT DRAWS YOU TO CREATIVE MORNINGS?
CM is a place to hear great stories and to meet people who want to help our city breathe deeply. ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON?
Hells, yeah. A heck of a lot happens before 7am shows up. I like being there for it. (oh…, and I have three little daughters, so involuntary 5am wake-up calls are my friend.)
Tickets for our next breakfast on Friday, Dec. 4 are available at CharlotteIsCreative.com at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30. Set your alarm … and claim your cup of coffee.
“You just dive in … and you’re there.” Great interview from Charlotte Post with CreativeMornings/Charlotte host, Matt Olin.
Award-winning author, Patrice Gaines, is our guest speaker on Dec. 4. You want to be there. We want you there. So, make sure to reserve your tickets at 9 a.m. on Nov. 30 at www.CharlotteIsCreative.com

Charlotte, we have to say “Thank you” for the incredible reception you
gave us at our inaugural meeting on Friday. We’ve been dreaming of what
it would be like … and it exceeded any expectation we had. Thank you
for the energy and excitement and passion you brought to the party. We
can only dream bigger of what we’re going to do together because #CharlotteIsCreative!
“I Can’t Believe It’s Not BRUTTER” … that’s the name of the talk Jen
Band, founder of Playing for Others, will give at our inaugural meeting on 11/6.
If THAT doesn’t hook you, nothing will. Starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 2, you can reserve your seat right HERE: http://creativemornings.com/talks/jen-band
How do I get an invitation to a Creative Mornings Meeting? It’s a common question … and a great one. The best way is to sign up for our e-newsletter in the top right corner of the http://www.CharlotteIsCreative.com homepage, right where Matt is pointing. (If you're viewing this on your mobile device, then Matt's WAY OFF and you'll need to scroll down to the bottom of the feed to find the signup box.) Seating is limited at CM breakfast meetings, but members of the e-Newsletter get a reminder the morning reservations open up. So, give us your e-mail and make with the clicky clicky. We’ll take it from there.
“We’re excited to support CreativeMornings and it’s mission to bring creative minds together to connect and be inspired.” - Garrett Tichy
We wouldn’t be on our way without the help of passionate people all over Charlotte. Their collective spirit attracted CreativeMornings to the Queen City. It’ll take awhile, but we’ll thank them all.
Today, we’d like highlight Garrett Tichy, co-owner of Ready at 7 (www.ReadyAt7.com), founder of #weloveclt and one of the sponsors of our inaugural meeting on Nov. 6. Garrett has been generous with his insight, encouragement and support as we prepare for the first meeting. Thank you, sir!

Very, very soon in a venue not far away …
Our speaker, Jen Band, isn’t going to blow up the Death Star on 11/6, but she will blow minds. We’ve got a good feeling about this. #MayTheCoffeeBeWithYou
