Meet our REVIVAL illustrator: Mariell Guzman
Each month, CreativeMornings has a different theme for the talks given at our local chapter events around the world. It is our tradition to work with an artist in our community to create an illustration for each monthly theme.
Our theme for May is REVIVAL. It was chosen by our Fort Worth chapter in Texas and illustrated by Mariell Guzman.
Mariell Guzman is a multidisciplinary artist based in Dallas, Texas, whose work spans mixed media painting, murals, and sculpture. Inspired by nature, her bicultural roots, and ancestral heritage, she creates vibrant, surreal ecosystems that explore identity, transformation, and healing. Her bold, intuitive style has led to collaborations with Meow Wolf, Pepsi, Starbucks, American Express, and more. You can find her vibrant murals across the U.S. and Mexico.
Artist Statement
This illustration was inspired by my healing journey after a period of burnout and depression, when I almost gave up on pursuing an art career. What slowly brought me back to life was reconnecting with nature. I began taking daily walks last spring, simply to watch the flowers dance. Returning to nature through the eyes of my inner child helped me gently lead my soul back home and remember why I love to create.
Visually, this piece is an attempt to capture the feeling of joy and vitality emerging from darkness. The powerful return of color, movement, and aliveness after a period of numbness. It’s an offering of that experience. Nature knows how to heal us, how to inspire, how to lead us home. Let it speak to you. Let it wake something alive inside you.
