Which CreativeMornings chapter would you like to visit and why?

How about a trip around the world during which I visit each and every chapter? I wouldn’t pick one, honestly. I would love to travel around and understand which meaning chapters put into “Creativity”, how they interpret global themes, and which talents they showcase.

What excites you?

Meeting inspiring (and humble) people and learning new things.

Describe the work you do and the impact you’re trying to make.

At the moment I do Communications and PR at Impossible - a design & engineering studio that solves meaningful problems through its work, developing software for modular phones with transparent supply chain, supporting projects aimed at the development of the gift economy, and empowering youth in underserved communities. In general, I would say our team uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems, and I am very happy to be a part of that team.

Who would be the ultimate CreativeMornings speaker?

Tim Urban from WaitButWhy - I just love that blog and sometimes reread my favourite posts just as I used to reread Harry Potter books while I was waiting for the continuation of the story. It’s also that very example of an inspiring but very humble person. Sir Ken Robinson because his TED talk, “Why schools kill creativity” is the best talk I’ve ever heard (this talk remains the #1 most watched TED talk for a reason). I would also love to listen to any knowledgeable art expert so they can explain what all this conceptual art is about.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Courage to follow my dreams in whatever they are. Everything that I manage to do within this principle is a great achievement for me.

What is your vision for CreativeMornings Lisbon?

Lisbon is a city with a huge creative potential, and you can feel it in everything - by walking along the streets and enjoying architecture, live music and street art, visiting countless museums, art galleries, and events of all types. Thanks to its great weather, colours, beauty and truly divine cuisine, Lisbon attracts talents from all over the world - many entrepreneurs and artists find their new home in this city. What I’d love to do with CreativeMornings/Lisbon is to bring all these diverse people together, give them an opportunity to know each other, create new relationships, and finally, form a creative community. I would also love to shed light on “hidden gems” - I am sure there are many people in Lisbon doing great things that not many people know of.

I am currently manager and founding partner of a coworking/incubator space in Ecuador called WorkingUP.

Who would be the ultimate CreativeMornings speaker?

Santiago Gangotena.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Making people smile.

What is your vision for CreativeMornings Quito?

My vision is to become an inspiration for Quito and for my country. Show people that if we want, we can, we are not too far from other cities and the development of other countries.

Meet Rachel Zink, Asheville, North Carolina

Which CreativeMornings chapter would you like to visit and why?

Any of the international chapters would be so fun! And I know everyone says this, but of course, the original: NYC. And from now on, when I travel, I’m excited to check out other cities' CreativeMornings events. It’ll be like having family to visit, even if I know no one else in town!

What excites you?

People engaged and working together toward a common goal (like our CM team!). Snow days. Sunny days. Candy, of all kind (except Kit Kat, that’s garbage candy). Happy hour. Short walks on the beach (not much of a saunterer, but trying to get better at it). A moving piece of art.

Describe the work you do and the impact you’re trying to make.

I have the honor of running an amazing organization called Arts For Life. We believe that art has the power to help kids heal, so we bring visual art, music, and creative writing lessons to pediatric patients and their families in children’s hospitals, as they undergo treatment for serious illnesses and disabilities. We share a sense of possibility, discovery, and hope for kids who are really struggling, and creativity is such a powerful way to do that. The mission of CreativeMornings echoes this, because the message of “everyone is creative, everyone is welcome” is something everyone can benefit from hearing.

Who would be the ultimate CreativeMornings speaker?

I love it when people embrace different modes of creativity. Like Steve Martin! An accomplished comedian, actor, author, composer, banjo player… the list goes on. One of NC’s native sons, Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers, in addition to being a tremendous musician, is a talented visual artist, too. And Sharon Jones would give an incredible talk, on her life as an amazing performer and a cancer survivor. But the ultimate speaker doesn’t have to be famous! I see every month as being the ultimate speaker: everyone has a story to tell, and I’m really jazzed about shining a light on some of these stories.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Besides my work with Arts For Life, I’m feeling pretty good about this CreativeMornings thing! All kidding aside, it’s been really amazing to see how the Asheville community has been energized and excited to launch CreativeMornings. It’s been a true team effort, and that’s a pretty magical thing.

What is your vision for CreativeMornings Asheville?

If even one person comes to our event and comes away with a light-bulb moment, or having made an exciting new connection, or was inspired to take action on a dormant dream, I think we’ll have been successful. More than one? Icing on the cake.
