Morning Person of the Day: Pinar Karaaslan
Meet Pinar Karaaslan (@mitalaloji), Senior Designer and Retail Project Manager for Euroflorist, Actress/Studio at Kechi, and 18x CreativeMornings/Amsterdam!
What is your first and/or most meaningful CreativeMornings experience?
The very first creative talk I attended to was two years ago. I remember not agreeing with or liking the points the speaker was making - so I don’t want to share the name - but appreciating to be in a crowd where I felt welcome and home. It is always that same pleasure to get to know creatives that struggle with their creativity while embracing it to the fullest. After every talk, I always get this strength in me that keeps me inspired for the world and others and gives me the courage to keep on “making”. I simply love the series for that.
Describe the work that you do and the impact you’re trying to make.
I work as a designer and an actress. As a designer, what I love working on most is the concept development and production. I LOVE bringing ideas into life and solving the problems that occur along the way. As an actress, I love meeting with new characters and their complexities. Acting helps me to gain respect and understanding for differences, cultures and otherness. Fascinating, how they both help me contribute to the society I live in. With one, I find the meaning in human and with the other, I serve to the human.
What’s your daily routine, and how does that connect to your creative work?
My daily routine is about blocks of hours. The first block where I only produce in front of my computer. Second block, I make research and feed the creative monster in me. Third, I reflect the inspirations I got onto the new production period. Fourth, I get duper lazy; eat, drink, laugh and watch. And finally fifth, I read, read and read.
If you could open a door and go anywhere, where would you go and why?
I would go hiking on a mountain where I could walk through the foggy wild forest and reach the clear sky in fire. Why? This would both give me an upward direction and fill me with amazement for the beauty we live in. Such a reminder in the days we live in today, would be a sweet slap on the face.
How do you recharge after a long week?
I sleep more, take walks in Amsterdam and laugh with friends. Ah, and I bake on Sundays. Delicious bread is always a good charger.
If you had to carry one book around for the rest of your life, which one would you choose? Why?
Now this one is hard to answer. Hmm.. Nope, I cannot choose. Maybe a collection of poems I have? Because they always change meaning according to which word you choose to emphasize. This would give dynamic to my reading and imagination I think.
